Museumnacht - Oude Kerk, Amsterdam

For the occasion of Museumnacht multimedia artist Dennis Rudolph developed an interactive, immersive virtual artwork. For one night only, visitors were able to explore the Oude Kerk through augmented reality, alongside a series of participatory artist talks, as well the first pop-up ‘OK Bar’.

During the evening, audiences interacted with a painting by Dennis Rudolph which came to life via mobile device. Through the digital screen, Rudolph’s gigantic 3D figure 'Europa' came to life and glided throughout the space, playfully inviting visitors to follow it throughout the church,

For guests unable to visit the Oude Kerk for the occasion, Rudolph also made a digital artwork for participants to explore the Museumnacht experience from their living-rooms; turning computer screens into ‘altarpieces’, Rudolph’s 3D painted figures as well as stock photos shattered through the user’s monitor to filled the user’s home to the music of Pergolesi's Stabat Mater. Experiences could also be recorded on-screen and shared via the hashtag ‘homeapocalypse’.
